In the Kitchen: mortar and pestle

Here's some key tools of the trade: in the foreground, we use the bamboo rice container ("gratip-khao") to keep sticky rice fresh.
The mortar ("Krok") and pestle ("Saak") in the background is what we use to smash and grind spices and make things like Som Tam and curry paste.
If you hear "phok, phok, phok ..." (repeat 20 times) coming from the kitchen, you know we're making something fresh!
